This can scarcely be called a recipe, but is such a nostalgic favourite that we couldn’t leave it out.
1 tomato, almost ripe but still with a bit of firmness
2 tsp or so raw cane sugar, or Demerara, or anything with a little bit of crunch
Salt
Cut the tomato in half and then into slices any which way you like, just under 1cm thick. Arrange attractively onto a clean, white plate and then sprinkle over the sugar and salt. Serve immediately.
